HEHD 8060 Youth Development in the Context of a Global and Diverse Society

The artifact that I have selected for Youth Development in the Context of a Global and Diverse Society is the Personal Assessment that we developed based on the results of the DISQ profile that we completed.  My DISQ profile results classified me as a "Promoter".  In general, people who fall in to this category tend to be gregarious, accepting of others and apt to make those around them feel comfortable. I believe that these are all accurate reflections of my personality and I that I use these traits to try effective work with youth and staff.  In my opinion, it is essential that youth development professionals accept youth for who they are, and make them feel welcome into the program.

The results of the DISQ profile also identified areas for growth, which can be helpful.  Those who fit the "Promoter" profile tend to need others to provide data to support conclusions, are often too trusting and tend to be less interested in task accomplishment.  As I progress through my career, it will be important for me to address these shortcomings to be a  more effective leader.
